On the 12th June, the Voices for Life Wiltshire Children’s Choir will be making their first ever public appearance at the Pound Art Centre’s (Corsham) ‘Blue Sky Festival’, singing alongside none other than Mercury Prize nominated folk musician Seth Lakeman.
Launched in January in collaboration with Heywood Prep School, the choir is looking forward to singing a range of Lakeman’s songs, from a soulful lament to lively jigs.
“It is a genuine privilege to work with these young singers, whose energy and spirit bring connection and uplift every rehearsal,” enthuses choir leader Angelique Williamson. “Their focus and progress have been remarkable and I cannot wait to see them perform – I know they will leave everyone with a smile!”
The choir is one of Bath-based music charity Voices for Life’s three inclusive junior choirs, and offers opportunities for children aged 6-11 to perform at major venues and events, no previous experience required. After their debut at the Blue Sky Festival, the children will be heading to WOMAD (Neston Park, 23rd-26th July, to sing traditional songs from around the world with festival favourite Camilo Menjura.
Since launching in 2021, Voices for Life has offered singing and wellbeing projects, assemblies and workshops to over 31,000 children across the South West and beyond. Its flagship school projects have had clear, positive results: over 80% children demonstrate improved confidence and 78% show increased enjoyment in singing.
