250 children are set to premiere Bath charity Voices for Life’s latest musical commission, ‘The Space Between the Stars’, in Bath Abbey on the 18th June, in its most ambitious project to date.
The performance follows months of preparation in school workshops led by the music education and wellbeing charity. In keeping with Voices for Life’s mission to inspire children to be happy and confident through music, these playful, space exploration-themed sessions are designed to nurture both the children’s singing ability and their self-esteem. In fact, 80% children participating in previous projects felt more confident after their workshops and concert.
“Being in Voices for Life’s projects was an amazing experience,” enthused one Voices for Life Young Champion, “It gave me the confidence to sing in front of a big audience on my own – something I wouldn’t have thought possible before.”
Now, the young singers will whisk away audience members on their own space adventure, with a stellar rendition of Jools Scott and Sue Curtis’ musical journey Stardust and its brand-new prequel ‘The Space Between the Stars’. The two musical works tell the story of a group of children overcoming new challenges with bravery and resilience as they leave Earth to settle on a different planet.
For many children, this will be their first opportunity to perform on-stage with live music, and will be a proud moment for them and their families.
Joining the children will be experienced musical director Katrine Reimers, professional musicians from the Bristol Ensemble, and the BBC’s John Telfer (‘The Archers’). The concert will bring together 6 local primary schools (Combe Down Primary School, St Martin’s Garden Primary School, St Mary’s CofE School Writhlington, Oldfield Park Junior School, St Philip’s CofE Primary School, and the Voices for Life St Michael’s Junior School Choir), as well as the Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir.
Tickets are available through the Bath Box Office and on the door. Doors open at 18:00, with the concert running from 18:30-20:00. All ages welcome.
