Where we started

Voices for Life was established during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 with the vision to inspire children to be happy and confident through the delivery of singing, confidence and wellbeing projects, providing an accessible and creative way for children to enhance their confidence and self-esteem. 

February 2021: The Launch

John Rutter introduced the premiere of the Voices for Life Wellbeing Song by Jools Scott and Sue Curtis performed by the Voices for Life Virtual Children’s Choir.

May 2021: The Mayor of Bath

The Mayor of Bath becomes a Patron of Voices for Life. 

May – October 2021: Stardust, A Musical Journey

The first Voices for Life Singing and Wellbeing project took place place with 250 children from primary schools in the Bath and Wiltshire area. All the children came together in October for two exciting performances in Bath Abbey of Stardust by Jools Scott and Sue Curtis and accompanied by Bristol Ensemble.

August 2021: Mission to the Moon, Summer School

The first Voices for Life Summer School took place over 5 days in North Somerset.

December 2021: Mission to the Moon, Bath Abbey

The first Voices for Life Mission to the Moon one day workshop wellbeing project took place place in Bath Abbey under the moon!

April 2022, We are Every Child recording at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios

12 young people spent a day at Real World Studios recording a new commission, We Are Every Child, composed by Francis Faux with lyrics by Jamila Gavin.

May 2022, We are Every Child Launch

Dame Emma Kirkby introduced the We Are Every Child launch video.

June 2022, Stardust performances (Stardust project 2)

Children from six local primary schools gathered in Bath Abbey for two performances of Stardust, alongside Bristol Ensemble and actor and narrator Jon Monie.

September 2022, Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir launch

The first Voices for Life Children’s Choir was launched in Bath.

December 2022, Stardust performance (Stardust project 3)

120 Children from four local primary schools gathered in Wiltshire Music Centre  for a performance of Stardust, alongside Bristol Ensemble and actor and narrator Jon Monie.

December 2022, Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir Christmas Concert

The first Voices for Life Children’s Choir’s public performance singing with Noctis Chamber Choir in Bath.

December 2022, Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir

The choir was invited to sing at the newly opened Newark Works Christmas Event.

December 2022,  Together at Christmas Royal Carol Service

Founder, Tessa Armstrong, and Treasurer, Sarah-Jane Hayward were invited to attend the Royal Carol Service hosted by HRH The Princess of Wales.

February 2023, Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir

The choir took part in a fundraising concert in Bath Abbey to buy generators for Ukraine.

March 2023,  Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir

The choir took part in a Charity Showcase concert at Downside School.

March 2023, Voices for Life Bath Children’s Choir

The choir took part in a concert with the West of England Music Alliance Senior ensembles.

May 2023, Bath Life Awards

Voices for Life won a Bath Life Award in the Education category. “Provided confidence to over a thousand children from deprived areas, earning sell-out audiences at Bath Abbey.  Clear vision and growth with highly accessible workshops.” (Bath Life Award Winner, 2023)

June 2023, Stardust  (projects 4 and 5)

200 Children from five Somerset primary schools gathered in Wells Cathedral for a performance of Stardust, alongside Wells Cathedral School musicians and choristers. Bristol Ensemble and actor and narrator John Telfer.

June 2023, Extraordinary! premiere 

250 from Bath primary schools gathered in Bath Abbey Cathedral for the premiere of Extraordinary! 

July 2023, Extraordinary! recording

100 Children from 9 schools in Bath & Northeast Somerset and Wiltshire recorded an album at the Royal High School.

October 2023, Let’s Go! Launch Ceremony 

The music relay launch ceremony took place at Twerton Park football stadium with 100 children from Roundhill Primary School, St Michael’s Junior School and Twerton Infants.

November 2023, Extraordinary!  Wiltshire Music Centre

Extraordinary! s to Wiltshire as Voices for Life return to Wiltshire Music Centre. 250 children took to the stage and performed to sell out audience on two nights including special guests Lady Lansdowne and the High Sheriff of Wiltshire.

December 2023, Carols by Candlelight, Pump Rooms, Bath 

The Bath Children’s Choir were invited to sing with Bath Bach Choir at the Carols by Candlelight concerts.

February 2024, St John’s Foundation’s 850th anniversary Service, Bath Abbey

An amazing day for Voices for Life! Our incredible choir of 90 children had the honour of singing for Her Majesty The Queen and over 500 guests to celebrate St John’s Foundation’s 850th anniversary. Her Majesty also took the time to meet the children afterwards. A truly unforgettable moment for them all.

March 2024, Stardust  (project 5) 

On 6th  March 2024, Stardust headed to St George’s Bristol. 150 children from South Gloucestershire took to the stage, conducted by David Ogden, narrated by John Telfer and accompanied by Bristol Ensemble together with soloists from Bristol Cathedral Choir School.

Our mission is to be a respected leader in education and community sustainability by establishing Voices for Life in every UK nation and region delivering music and wellbeing projects, choirs, and performances.
